The lovely and brilliantly talented Kate Gabrielle has featured my song Fred Astaire as her Silents and Talkies song of the week accompanied by artwork! So, in honor of that honor, I did a quick piano sketch of one of his most iconic pieces, Cheek to Cheek.
I think my favorite Astaire songs are probably Night and Day, Never Gonna Dance, Pick Yourself Up, Steppin' Out With My Baby and my very very favorite, All My Eggs in One Basket. But he's wearing a sailor outfit in that song, not his signature tux, so I thought my cover would be more typical Astaire!
What are your favorites of his?

ReplyDeleteOh! and I have bunches of Fred Astaire favorites but I'll narrow it down to: Night and Day, Pick Yourself Up, Never Gonna Dance, I'm Putting All My Eggs in One Basket, Isn't This A Lovely Day (To Be Caught in the Rain), I Left My Hat in Haiti, Slap that Bass, and So Near Yet So Far. okay so 8 isn't exactly narrowing it down. The thing is, every time I listen to Fred Astaire, I rediscover how amazing the songs are my list of favorites keeps growing (your song sketch choice, for example!)!

ReplyDeleteMy favorite Fred Astaire song is, hands down, I'm Old Fashioned. I just love that song so much it's incomprehensible!
Also on the list, though, are Not My Girl, Things Are Looking Up, We Saw the Sea, I'm Putting All My Eggs in one Basket, The Way You Look Tonight, Cheek to Cheek and Putting on the Ritz :-)
That is a wonderful version - please send a copy!
