So When You Hear It Thunder, Don't Run Under a Tree

I so love this song! I actually did a cover of it (which you can hear here) a couple years ago.

But the reason I posted this song is because I was inspired by Billie's gorgeous styling for one of the songs on my upcoming record (out first week in November!  Probably!).  I just love her lilting, kind of lazy way she hits her higher notes.  My favorite of her songs is Easy Living but this one seemed perfect for a Sunday.

The Girl With the Blue Bow

So, Christianna at The Girl With the Blue Bow blog wrote up a marvelous little feature post about my upcoming record!  Woohoo!  She shows some photos from the album photo shoot (one of them might be the record cover! I still haven't decided yet), talks about the style and even discusses details about the songs!
Please swing on by and write a gushing comment!

P.S. Should you discover your one, true dream?  Find out on my previous blog post!

Cinderella

The first song that actually inspired the c.d. - both thematically and musically - was the song, I Should Know Better.  It, like all the songs, is very, very loosely inspired by the fairy tale.  But I DO mention pumpkins in it, so... Musically, I'm playing around with different vintage amp filters (particularly British rock ones) to filter the piano and bass through. I'm also experimenting with more harmonies.

Here I am enjoying the first pumpkin latte of the season...  How many of you did too?

Once upon a time...

A while back I posted that I was working on a 60s spy-themed bossa nova album.

And, I actually have songs written for it and all but it became a very involved project (I am planning to fly out to LA and record with Dan Garcia on saweeet vintage mics and such) so I'm putting it off for just a bit and am currently working on a record lyrically themed around...

Fairy tales!

And musically inspired by:

The Beatles

Especially John Lennon

And some Billie Holiday

And even a little Fats Waller.

So be sure to follow along the next ten to eleven weeks to see behind-the-scenes stuff, maybe a vlog or two, see inspiration from and for the songs, ET CETERA!  Very exciting.

The End.  (or, the beginning)
