As Time Goes By...

This is not the watch he gave me, it's actually a cutie pie one I found on Etsy here.

Recently, a very sweet friend of mine noticed that I didn't own a watch. He was an avid collector of watches and it truly bothered him that I didn't even have a little one. Although I explained I never really needed one, he went out and purchased me a watch with his own money (and being eleven, it meant even more) and gave it to me. And although this sweet gesture touched me a lot, I still have the hardest time bringing myself to wearing the watch (I promise I wear it whenever I see him, though!)!

For some reason, in my head, an ideal life would have virtually no schedules - I'd go to bed when I was tired, get up when I wasn't anymore, eat breakfast no matter what time of day it was and not have any pressing appointments to time things around. Kind of a hakuna matata life, maybe.

Unfortunately, that's not quite how my life is at this moment and I understand the need for things like flight schedules and dental appointments and such. But I was wondering if there were any others who feel the same way about watches and time. Any who feel completely opposite, I'd love to hear your thoughts too!

P.S. Feel free to follow me! I promise only ever to lead you to bright, sunny places!

  1. I've never had a watch. I don't know what it is about them. I've tried them on in stores, and have never felt comfortable. Although, the photo you posted is really cute, and it was sweet of your friend to think of you!

  2. I'm with you on that time frame. I don't like to be ruled by the clock.

  3. To be honest, I don't own a watch myself, and I've been perfectly fine without it! Lovely post <3

  4. How cute and sweet that he gave you a watch! To be honest, I'm way more schedule-oriented than is probably healthy. I like to plan and micro-plan everything. I try to avoid wearing watches so as to avoid constantly looking at one, which is a dreadful habit I acquire as soon as a watch is on my wrist.

  5. Haha what a cute watch! I guess I've hopped on the bandwagon and like all the other kids, I use my cell phone as my watch! How I wish life was so easygoing like that!

  6. I haven't worn a watch for a couple of years. I hate the pressure of having time strapped to my wrist and checking it every few minutes. I feel a lot more relaxed (maybe too relaxed!) now I don't wear one. This went hand in hand with me leaving the job I hated and going back to uni. Now I just use my mobile phone to check the time, but when I go back to work full time I think I'll probably need to start wearing one again..

  7. I'm with you, Emma! I haven't worn a watch for quite a while. I guess now whenever I want to know the time I look at my cell phone. Though I suppose if I'm ever in the market for a watch, I'd look for something like the one you've shown here! :)

Thanks for your sweet comment on my recent "blog anxiety" post (or whatever that was, ha). Your blog is a very optimistic place as well!

  9. I always wear a watch. But strangely enough, I refuse to set the right time. Maybe I'm making some sort of statement about everyone's obsession with always having to be somewhere.

    Love Grace.

  12. Left to my own devices, I go to bed at 5 am and wake up at 2pm :) Silly monks who made those clocks... It makes me glad to know that someone else's body doesn't seem to fit the normal schedule, either.

  14. I always wear a watch. Out of habit, I guess. Although I must agree with you that an ideal life would have no schedules. One of the worst feelings is when you're racing to meet a deadline or realising that you don't have any time left to do what you want.

  15. I never wear a watch, I am just not used to it any more and I always buy cheap watches and when they break, I just don't buy new ones any more, haha.

  16. I so know what you mean about not wanting to wear a watch! I must wear one during the week beacuse my whole life as a tecaher depends on wearing one. However, come the weekend, I make sure I have at least one watch free day where I just puddle around blissfully unaware of the time. This little watch here is so sweet!

  18. I don't wear watches either - I go through phases actually. But haven't had a phase in over 7 years!

  19. Such a cute watch! I don't wear one either, but only because these days you find the time everywhere (eg mobile). I read that people living in natural environments (like secluded rainforests) don't sleep 8 hours at night but a bit here and there. They just lie down whenever they feel tired. Sounds good to me.

  21. An unplanned life would be marvelous. BUT I do like my watch and I do like a set schedule. Ha...I guess I'm on the fence about that one... xCC
