A Little Dis-Dystopian Reading

musings and tidbits
I admit.  I have never actually read Hunger Games so I have no room to make a judgment of what it's like.

BUT, I do have a pretty clear of what it's about and I am not really into of dystopian worlds and kids killing each other.  So.  Here are three mood-lifting blogs I'm reading right now where you can visit to get your optimism, the-world-is-a-beautiful-place fix.

1.  musings and tidbits (pictured above)- is filled with lovely photos and inspiring quotes.  The perfect oasis to recharge and feel happy.

2.  Just Add Glitter and Stir - I have posted about this blog only, hmm, a trillion times or so but she is hiLARious so totally worth reading. Here are two of her recent posts filled with helpful essential know-hows: One and Two.

3.  So Cute it Hurts - Fortunately, I have yet to literally be hurt by her cuteness but if one could, I certainly would.  Because her site is all kinds of encouragement, prettiness and, well, cuteness.

Where Do You Go?

I'd visit this room if it existed online.  Isn't it pretty?
Thank you so much to all the suggestions for happy music!  Now, as I'm on a roll with fabulous answers, I thought I'd ask another similar-ish question: where do you go online when you want to cheer yourself up or even just continue your good mood?

For me, I have several blogs and stores that make me feel sunny but sometimes, I read through all the blogs and then, well I've read them all! So, I'm looking to you, dear readers, to give me some new places to visit!

Solving Problems...

Me being thoughtful

I just read an article that said that people always have a hard time figuring out how to solve their own problems - despite the fact that they can see many solutions for other problems. I thought to myself, "Hmm, my readers are all smart people! Maybe they can help me*!"

I don't have a terrible problem, per se, but I'm trying to think of creative, out-of-the-box ideas of how to make money from my music! I just started a custom song shop on Etsy and I've been submitting songs to various music libraries that supply songs for t.v. shows and such. My albums are for sale on iTunes, Amazon and CDBaby but the trick is getting people to hear them! Ha!

It's just that I'm only six (!) weeks away from Baby's arrival and I'd really love to have some other ways to make money from home (preferably from my music) so I can stay with my Baby and buy groceries too! Yay!

So, here is my question for you, smart readers: what are some ideas of ways to make money through music from my home? What about ways to promote my music and increase sales? I'd love any ideas - from crazy to logical - some of which I may have tried, but I'm sure there are plenty I've never even thought of!

Thank you a million times for suggestions and help!

Much Love for Etsy

Photobucket

Anna from Much Love is doing a lovely project: "Show Me Your Heart!" where participantstake a picture (that features a heart) and then write about something you love.

She is posting up all the participants on Monday so be sure to check her blog then!

That was a bit difficult for me entirely because I have far, far too many things I love! Blogs! Chocolate! Tea! Disney! Cupcakes! Spice bread! Raindrops on roses! Whiskers on kittens!

You get the idea.

So I decided to write about one thing I discovered last year (ish - I really discovered it a couple years earlier but not to this extent) - Etsy. I love that there are so many people that are doing their dream, even if only part-time, and sharing it with the world. I love that I can find a stationery set, a kitty toy, an art print, a vintage robot and a hand-made scarf all on the same site. I love how pretty it is (I'm very fussy about only shopping in pretty places). I love the community.

And I love how when I get a package from Amazon, it has the packing slip included but when I get a package from Etsy, it has a little hand-written note or my item gift-boxed or even an extra treat.

I love that.

And I know I have Etsy shop owners and Etsy shop lovers who read my blog so:

- if you're a shop owner, please leave your shop's link and a little description of what you sell in a comment!

- if you're an Etsy shop lover, please leave the link of one of your favorite shops.

- if you're neither, browse through the links and find something you love!

P.S. Feel free to follow me! I promise only ever to lead you to bright, sunny places!

Some of My Favorites...

I have had such an amazing opportunity to read other people's fascinating insights, lovely discoveries and gorgeous works of art these last couple months I've been blogging.

There are way too many blog posts that I've enjoyed to pick out my favorites, but here is a small sampling of some of the most memorable posts I've read in the last couple months.

Pick Yourself Up
Flying Down To Hollywood's SallyTonks highlighted one of my favorite Fred and Ginger dances ever in this post! Totally a mood lifter.

Betsy from Gingerella's Corner also mentioned the song in this sweet and sincere post.

Fun Illustrations!
As a vintage book lover and an illustration lover, this post in the snail and the cyclops was so fun, it needed to be revisited.

Gorgeous Photos
Some lovely photo posts by Stacy from Musings and Tidbits, Emily from Resplendent Tranquility, by Aya from Strawberry Koi, Quincy from Q's Daydream and Micaela from The Drifter and Gypsy.

And I'm always amazed by the photos on myphoneography taken by Saltina's iPhone.

Fashion Lovelies
I love fashion and Bug from In Bug's Drawers takes it to a new level. You won't believe these four looks are all based from the same dress!

I also adored this practically edible look from Some Girls Wander. And Maria from Lulu Letty always has impeccable style.

Fantasy Vacation
These posts, one by Anna from Much Love and another by Sam from Mateou en Pelouche have convinced me I absolutely must visit Luna Park.

Informative!
Maggi from Circle 7-2099 kindly summed up the lives of several Golden Era idols in this informative and entertaining post. And Blondie from Blonde Episodes does marvelous behind-the-scenes facts for many films but this holiday post was my favorite.

Inspirational
Little Monarch was my inspiration for this post in the first place. I loved, loved this artistic entry.

Forget About Chestnuts, I'll Take Peppermint Bark, please!

Photobucket

One of my followers on Twitter (you can follow me too, by the way!) mentioned that my tweets heavily feature holiday foods. And here is why: I love holiday food.

A blog I've been visiting regularly for my holiday-food-fix is The Red Deer. I look at the pictures of Alicia's peppermint bark, her iced lemon cookies, her white rocky road... and sigh.

So enjoy her lovely food pics and recipes (and clever writing!).
Pure holiday-food-joy.

An Award (thank you!) and Seven Interesting Things About Me

I was so so excited to be selected for the Beautiful Blogger Award by one of my all-time favorite blogs, acupfullofsunshine. Thank you so much, Anne!

The rules are as follows:

1) Thank the person who nominated me for this award.
2) Copy the award & place it on my blog.
3) Link to the person who nominated me for this award.
4) Tell us 7 interesting things about yourself.
5) Nominate 7 bloggers.
6) Post links to the 7 blogs I nominate.

I was trying to narrow the "things about myself" down to things that if someone told me while we were waiting to get our licenses renewed at the DMV, I'd reply,
"My! How interesting!"
Or at least, politely,
"Mmm. Interesting."

Here goes:

Photobucket

1. I used to work in a mystery dinner theater improv troupe. We'd stage a murder mystery on a train on its way to tour the Château Ste. Michelle winery in Woodville, WA. I was murdered myself several times a month after eating a delicious dinner on a fancy train. Not a bad way to make a living, I'd say.

2. I used to work at a teeny Italian-inspired café in Seattle as a barista where I was trained to to make gelato and how to bake donuts! I quit after I learned the latter because this meant I had to be at work at 4:30 a.m. No longer my dream job. Sigh.

3. I am a sensitive as a ripe peach when it comes to stories/movies/books and I restrict all viewing to movies that aren't too sad, violent, suspenseful, dark or depressing. You will not be able to talk me into watching a movie that is any combination of the above list. I'm into happy endings, tap dances and period pieces that conclude with weddings.

4. George Gershwin is responsible for me not quitting music. I was having a terrible time at classical music summer camp (you are welcome to imagine the details), had decided music was not for me and was wandering morosely through the halls at Florida State University, when I heard the strains of Rhapsody in Blue coming through a door. I parked myself on the floor and listened to the pianist practice and by the time I had gotten back up, I had changed my mind.

5. I began yoga in 1999. Because of Sting, Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna (mostly Sting). There, I said it. I'll come clean. But I loved it. I've even taken a teacher training course.

6. I must have a schedule where I can sleep in mornings. I have chosen many jobs and rejected many jobs (see #2) because of this requirement. Ten o'clock is the earliest I like to rise and it's practically impossible for me to fall asleep before 2:30 a.m.

7. One of my dearest dreams ever is to write/perform a song for a Pixar/Disney film. Anyone know anyone who knows anyone who works there?

The seven wonderful blogs I nominate for this honor are:
