When You Wake You Will Find All the Pretty Little Horses

Here is the Lullaby from Friday's Rose-Colored Radio Show.  I know, I know, I just released a lullaby album - WHEN WILL IT ALL STOP, EMMA? - but I do love this song so it was fun to do.

Lullaby and Good Night...

From here

This week's Rose-Colored Radio Show will be all about night-time - stories, lullabies, the moon...  Sigh.  Here are some beds that I found on Pinterest that would make me more than happy to go to bed (not that I am ever any less than more than happy to go to bed).
Be sure to check back on Friday for our Rose-Colored Radio Show featuring a bedtime story by celebrated author Sally Flynn.

Intangible? Not Anymore! Physical CDs are Available!

Art by Miriam Wallace (my mama!)

I know you are all very desperate to buy lullaby cds to send to all your friends who are new mamas or daddies or are going to be new mamas or daddies or for yourself (as a perfectly relaxing collection of tunes) but how? Well, never fear!  I now have physical cds available!  Just click on that button on my side bar and you can order one (or four!).

If you want a note that is dedicated to the recipient, just let me know in the notes!  I can also send it directly to the giftee.

So... Yay!

Also, on Wednesday, the second episode of Emma Wallace's Rose-Colored Radio Show will be aired.  Please check back!

P.S. Kate Gabrielle featured me in an interview on her blog!  Read and find out the deepest darkest secrets of my life EVER! Or at least a couple things you may not have known...

What If I Like Sleeping Past Nine? What Then?

Song Sketch

My little sweetie!

I had considered using this song in my Love Songs and Lullabies album but thought I haven't been around quite long enough to be self-referential...  Ha!  But here is the version I did when I recorded that first version of A Reason to Stay Up All Night. It's pretty close to the original, but there are some differences!

Feel free to download, of course!

Thank you all for your encouragement about Rose-Colored Radio Show and all those listens!  I'll have another episode up in the next week or so so be sure to check back!

Under Construction - Week Eight

Song Sketch and Big Blog Announcement!

Well, I'm afraid I still am waiting on hearing back from people...  I have designed the c.d. cover and am very excited about it coming out!  So that's good, right?

And, my blog is getting a, wait for it... Radio Show!  That's right, starting with the advent of my next album, Love Songs and Lullabies, I'll be recording a podcast in the style of an old variety show.  So please be sure to check back in for updates!  Woohoo!

The song above was recommended by a fan as a quintessential lullaby.  I added in an original little melody to it that comes in halfway through (though I'm only posting up the first portion of it).
What do you think?

And wishing all American readers a lovely holiday and international readers a lovely day period!

Under Construction - Week Seven

Song Sketch

Well, I'm still done but in the waiting process.  Sigh.  I'm not very good at the waiting process, to be honest.  Alas.

This is a song I've released before and I'd also almost put it on the lullaby c.d. but the arrangement wasn't very lullaby-esque.  The original treatment of the song, by Bing Crosby,  is a perfect lullaby so I thought I'd post both up for you to hear! Unfortunately the quality is a little rough on the video but you get the feeling!

I hope this week brings lots of "pennies from heaven" for you!

Under Construction - Week Five

Song Sketch

Pic from here

This is actually not a song from the album.  It is a song I thought about putting on the album but decided that since I was doing So This is Love from Cinderella, just one Disney princess song was good.  But I thought I'd post it up anyway and give you a break from my little partial songs!

I also wrote an update about the album on a special Sunday post here.

Under Construction - Week Four

Song Sketch

I'm almost almost done!  I just have vocals to add to two songs and then a final mix-down and then mastering and then send it in to CDBaby for them to send to iTunes and then my lullaby album will be available to soothe any and everyone to sleep.  Yay!  Shhhhh...

Here is the opening riff to another original lullaby I've written.  This is one of the two songs that require vocals (actually, they're both originals! I leave those guys for last) but you can hear the harp at the beginning.  This song was inspired by all those creepy lullabies that warn babies of witches and boogeymen; mine is not lyrically scary at all (it's me, you know.  I'm more easily scared than a four-year-old) but I wanted that kind of dark, medieval feel.

Under Construction - Week Three

Song Sketch

Leetle by leetle... I'm getting the album done! Believe it or not, trying to complete an album while taking care of an almost-seven-month-old is a bit tough. But enough excuses!

Here is the first verse of one of the originals that is going to be on my album. It's completely the rough - I just have the basic take (no mixes - there aren't any effects on the voice or anything; in fact, I'm not even sure this is the vocal take I'm going to use!) - so you can hear what it sounds like at the very very beginning!

Under Construction - Week Two

Song Sketch

My brother and me a couple years ago...

I'm almost done with all the instrumental parts of the upcoming album! Hooray! It's been a completely different challenge trying to figure out how to make the album both varied enough for the grown up listeners to enjoy the songs and consistent enough to lull a little one to sleep. You see I want people to like the album whether they use it for a baby or just to help them wind down themselves!

Here is a snippet of a song I'm covering - it's a song my dad actually used to sing to my sisters and me every night. Oddly enough, I couldn't fall asleep while he was singing - I had to wait until he was all done and everything was quiet - but I still loved it!

Eat an Apple Every Day, Be In Bed By Three

Song Sketch

Photo from here

This song sketch was so much fun to do! I've been wanting to cover this song for a while and March seemed like the perfect month in which to do it. I think the lyrics are a perfect combination of quirky and sweet.

Also, I'm thinking of releasing a digital collection of song sketches for my lullaby c.d. since most lullabies would be simple piano/vox covers anyways. What do you all think of that idea? And what would you say constitutes a lullaby? I sing my baby to sleep while bouncing vigorously on an exercise ball so I feel like the lullabies I choose may not work for most babes...

If you would like a copy of this song for you, just let me know in a comment! If it's your first request, please leave your email address as well.

P.S. Feel free to follow me! I promise only ever to lead you to bright, sunny places!

Rock-a, Rock-a-bye, My Baby...

Song Sketch

`Photobucket

So, I guess you can see... I'm expecting my first baby at the end of September! Hooray!

I actually wrote this song around three years ago for my niece before she was born, but I have yet to write my upcoming baby's lullaby... It's on my mind!

If you want a copy for yourself, just leave a comment and let me know! And if it's your first request, please leave your email as well.

P.S. I've entered this in Anna's MuchLove post - I have much love for my new, growing belly!
